California Governor Jerry Brown vetoed a bill to protect franchise owners from early termination of their contracts with corporations such as McDonald’s USA LLC, Domino’s Pizza LLC and 7-Eleven Inc.

The legislation known as SB 610 would have made it harder for companies to prevent the sale of a franchise to another individual, protected franchise owners from retaliation for joining a trade group and required the corporation to pay the owner fair value if the contract were terminated without a “substantial and material breach.”
