Air France pilots resumed talks with management after the airline said it would drop plans for a low-cost unit outside its French and Dutch home bases, a proposal that fueled its longest strike in 40 years.

SNPL, the main pilot union, agreed to return to talks with management at 3 p.m. and said the strike will continue for the time being. The smaller SPAF union said separately that it is seeking guarantees on contracts and pay assurances, adding that management had 24 hours to respond before members joined SNPL by extending their strike for 48 hours.
