Corn Drops as Farmers Start Biggest U.S. Harvest Ever

Corn futures fell as favorable weather helps farmers harvest a crop forecast to be the largest ever in the U.S., the world’s top grower. Soybeans were little changed, and wheat climbed.
“Freeze threats remain low through the first week of October” with “no major harvest issues” expected, Bethesda, Maryland-based Commodity Weather Group said in a report. The corn harvest this season will increase 3.4 percent to 14.395 billion bushels from a year earlier, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said last week. Through yesterday, the price dropped 19 percent in 2014.
