Texas Governor Rick Perry has been preparing for a potential U.S. presidential bid in the last 20 months just in case he decides to run in 2016, he said in an interview with Bloomberg Television.

Perry, a 64-year-old Republican, had back surgery six weeks before kicking off his candidacy for the 2012 election and “mentally and physically I was not on my game at all,” he said at the World Economic Forum’s summer event in Tianjin, China today. Another run would require “an inordinate amount of time in preparation,” he said.
