Verizon Wireless Asked to Justify Plan to Slow Data Speed

U.S. Federal Communications Commission Chairman Tom Wheeler told Verizon Wireless he’s troubled by the company’s plan to reduce data speeds for some heavy Internet users.

Wheeler in a letter today asked Chief Executive Officer Daniel Mead to explain the rationale behind the changes set to take effect in October. Verizon’s decision, based on distinctions among customers’ plans, doesn’t appear to fit definitions of reasonable network management, Wheeler said.
