Ruble Rallies as Putin Eases Ukraine Crisis Concern Before Vote

The ruble gained for a sixth day and stocks rose after President Vladimir Putin said Russia will work with the winner of Ukraine’s presidential vote, easing concern a standoff between the two nations will lead to wider sanctions.

The ruble strengthened 0.7 percent to 39.6878 against the central bank’s target dollar-euro basket by 6 p.m. in Moscow, taking its appreciation this week to 2.2 percent. The Micex Index closed up 0.6 percent at 1,438.98, extending its fourth weekly gain to 3.4 percent. The yield on local-currency debt due February 2027 declined seven basis points to 8.78 percent.
