Slovak Premier Loses Presidential Vote to Philanthropist

Andrej Kiska, an independent businessman-turned-philanthropist, won Slovakia’s presidential election, defeating Prime Minister Robert Fico’s attempt to tighten his grip on power, according to preliminary results.
Fico conceded his defeat before final votes were released. Kiska garnered 59.4 percent of votes compared with 40.6 percent for Fico, the Slovak Statistics Office said on its website today, based on votes counted from 58 percent of electoral districts.
