As much as 8 inches (20 centimeters) of snow may fall on the Washington area by tomorrow as a winter storm moves east out of the central U.S., just days before the start of spring.

New York City might see a few flakes as celebrants gather for St. Patrick’s Day festivities, although cold, dry air over the Northeast is expected to keep most of the snow to the south, said AccuWeather Inc. in State College, Pennsylvania.
