FIFA Fines Argentine Soccer Clubs for Sham Transfer Deals

Soccer ruling body FIFA said in an unprecedented move it fined four Argentine clubs for trading players through a Uruguayan team for “reasons that were not of a sporting nature.”
FIFA said it’s the first time it acted against so-called bridge transfers, which occurred in Uruguay for at least 20 years for tax reasons or to benefit investors who own player transfer rights, according to Uruguayan soccer federation treasurer Fernando Sobral.
