Treasury’s Lew, Japan’s Aso Agree Ukraine Must Rely on IMF Aid

U.S. Treasury Secretary Jacob J. Lew and Japanese Finance Minister Taro Aso agreed that an International Monetary Fund program should be the centerpiece of Ukraine’s efforts to strengthen its economy.
Lew and Aso discussed developments in Ukraine today, according to an e-mailed statement released by a Treasury official. Lew emphasized that the U.S. is prepared to work with its partners to provide as much support as Ukraine needs, according to the statement.
