A co-defendant of Joaquin “el Chapo” Guzman, the alleged Mexican drug kingpin captured Feb. 22, will plead guilty in a drug trafficking case in Chicago, a U.S. Justice Department spokesman said.

Alfredo Vasquez Hernandez, indicted in 2009, will enter the plea March 7 before U.S. District Judge Ruben Castillo, said the spokesman, Randall Samborn. Vasquez Hernandez is accused of conspiracy to import and distribute narcotics, according to the court docket. His lawyer, Paul Brayman of Chicago, disclosed the coming plea yesterday at a hearing, Samborn said.
