Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni will today sign into law a bill that imposes tougher penalties on gays including life imprisonment for some homosexual acts, the government’s spokesman said.
The enactment will take place this morning at State House in Entebbe, about 32 kilometers (20 miles) southwest of the capital, Kampala, Ofwono Opondo said in a phone interview today. The planned signing comes after Museveni said earlier this month that experts including the school of biomedical sciences at Uganda’s Makerere University showed that there is “no gene associated with homosexuality.”
