The German government will nominate Claudia Buch as vice president of the Bundesbank, succeeding Sabine Lautenschlaeger as the only woman on the central bank’s board, said two people familiar with the coalition’s decision.

Buch, who is currently president of the Halle Institute for Economic Research, will be put forward at a regular meeting of Chancellor Angela Merkel’s cabinet on Feb. 26, said the people, who asked not to be named because ministers have yet to formally adopt the decision. The Finance Ministry declined to comment on the nomination when contacted by phone today.
