Gazprom Antitrust Settlement Bid Fell Short, EU’s Almunia Says

The European Union’s competition chief, Joaquin Almunia, shrugged off last month’s offer by OAO Gazprom, the supplier of a quarter of the bloc’s natural gas, to settle an antitrust case and avoid potential fines.

“I have not yet received concrete proposals so as to consider possible” a settlement, EU Competition Commissioner Joaquin Almunia told reporters today after a conference in Bruges, Belgium. He said regulators “continue working” on a formal antitrust complaint.
