Turkey Seeks to Enable Retrial for Coup Plot Soldiers

Turkey’s Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, embattled by corruption allegations against his government, said authorities were working on legal changes allowing the retrial of hundreds of soldiers convicted of coup plot charges.
Turkey’s military said in a statement today that it has asked the authorities to take steps to protect its jailed members and restore trust in the judiciary. That followed comments from Erdogan last night that the government was “positively” examining a retrial.
