The arrest of an Indian diplomat in New York last week on fraud charges drew protests from the government of the Asian nation and the main opposition party.

The Indian government halted all import clearances to the U.S. embassy in New Delhi, including liquor, and withdrew all airport passes for U.S. diplomats, Press Trust of India said yesterday. The NDTV television channel showed heavy machinery removing cement security barricades outside the embassy.
