A gunman has taken an unknown number of staff hostage at the Ingolstadt town hall in Germany. German news channel N24 has reported that the situation is unrelated to today’s visit by Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel, who is due in Ingolstadt at around 5 p.m.

Guenther Beck, spokesman for the Ingolstadt police, told Bloomberg on the telephone that the gunman entered the building at about 9 a.m. The gunman is in contact with the police, but has yet to issue any demands.
