Senate Panel May Consider New Laws in Texas Blast Probe

The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee will investigate the deadly blast at a Texas fertilizer plant as its chairman presses regulators on chemical-safety laws that would apply to similar facilities.
Senator Barbara Boxer, a California Democrat, sent letters to the Environmental Protection Agency and Chemical Safety Board today, seeking information on their responses to the April 17 explosion. Boxer said she will hold a hearing soon.
