U.S. stocks pared losses as the House of Representatives was said to plan a session on Dec. 30, fueling optimism a budget deal will be reached.

The Standard & Poor’s 500 Index was down 0.7 percent at 1,411.8 as of 2:48 p.m. in New York after losing as much as 1.3 percent earlier.
