Food stamps went to a record 46.68 million Americans in July, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said today. The figure is up from 46.67 million in June and 2.9 percent higher than in July 2011, the department said today in a statement on its website.
Spending on the program totaled $6.26 billion in July, also the highest ever.
