Isaac Weakens to Tropical Storm

Hurricane Isaac weakened to a tropical storm about 50 miles (80) kilometers) west-southwest of New Orleans as its top sustained winds dropped to 70 miles per hour, the National Hurricane Center said at 3 p.m. East Coast time.

The storm is still causing life-threatening storm surges and inland flooding, the center said. It’s moving northwest at 6 mph.
