Patriot CEO Whiting Replaced by Chairman Engelhardt

Patriot Coal Corp., the U.S. miner that hired Blackstone Group LP while working to refinance its debt, said Chief Executive Officer and President Richard M. Whiting has left after five years at the company.

Chairman Irl Engelhardt is the new CEO, effective immediately, the St. Louis-based company said today in a statementBloomberg Terminal. Engelhardt is a former CEO of Peabody Energy Corp., the coal producer from which Patriot was spun off in 2007. Patriot Chief Operating Officer Bennett K. Hatfield was appointed president.
