Teen Birth Rate Dropped to Lowest Ever in 2010, CDC Report Finds

The birth rate for teenagers in the U.S. dropped to the lowest ever, with the fewest number of babies born to the age group since 1946, as health-awareness efforts paid off, U.S. officials said.

The rate fell 9 percent in 2010 from a year earlier, and 44 percent since 1991, according to the report from the Atlanta-based Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. There were 34.3 births for every 1,000 15- to 19-year-old females in 2010.
