German police detained 1,300 people as they cleared a sit-in of demonstrators trying to block a shipment of nuclear waste, the Associated Press reported, citing the police.

Officers evicted thousands of protesters from the rail tracks near Dannenberg in northern Germany starting early today, AP said. Those who refused to leave were detained and are being brought before judges later, the report said.
