President Barack Obama, under pressure from Republican lawmakers and constituents to reduce the highest jobless levels in more than a quarter century, faces a more persistent, underlying challenge: long-term unemployment.

He will lay out his plansBloomberg Terminal in a speech tomorrow to help bring down a jobless rate stuck around 9 percent or higher since April 2009. One hurdle is finding employment for people who’ve been out of work more than half a year as their ranks swell to the largest since the Great Depression.
