Libya’s National Transitional Council asked foreign nations to release $6.5 billion from the Libyan funds frozen abroad to meet urgent requirements, said the council’s representative in the United Arab Emirates.

The council that is leading the rebellion against Muammar Qaddafi needs the funds to ensure the functionning of hospitals, pay government salaries and supply food and fuel to the war-torn North African nation, Aref Ali Nayed told reporters yesterday in Qatar.
