Burundi will start monitoring sources of tin ore for export under a plan aimed at curbing the trade in “conflict minerals,” joining Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo’s Katanga Province.

Burundi’s Ministry of Energy and Mines will work with ITRI Ltd., representing tin producers and smelters, to carry out the iTSCi tracing project, according to an e-mailed statement today from St. Albans, England-based ITRI.
