Any peace dividend from bringing U.S. troops home from Afghanistan likely will take years, not months, to make a dent in the federal budget, analysts said.

In his June 22 speech announcing the withdrawal of 33,000 U.S. troops from Afghanistan by September 2012, President Barack Obama said “it is time to focus on nation-building here at home.”
