Coal Consumption in U.S. Increased 9.8% Last Week, Genscape Says

Coal consumption in the U.S. surged 9.8 percent in the week ended yesterday from the previous seven-day period, led by an increase in the East, according to Genscape Inc.
Eastern power-plant use rose 11 percent while demand in the West climbed 8.4 percent, the data provider said. Overall coal demand was down 8.4 percent from a year earlier.
