U.S. Coal Consumption Dropped 0.7% in Past Week, Genscape Says

U.S. coal demand fell 0.7 percent in the week ended yesterday from the previous seven-day period, led by a decline in the West, according to Genscape Inc.

Western power-plant use rose 3.9 percent while consumption in the East slid 1 percent, the data provider said. Overall coal demand was down 5 percent from a year earlier.
