Portugal doesn’t need to tap financial assistance from the European Union or the International Monetary Fund, according to Carlos Costa Pina, the nation’s secretary of state for treasury and finance.

“In Portugal we don’t need any financial assistance from any kind of international institution,” Costa Pina said at the Bloomberg European Debt Briefing conference hosted by Bloomberg Link in New York today. “It is not totally clear that borrowing conditions could be so much better” with the European Financial Stability Fund, he said.
