Chinese Utilities Advance in First Solar-Thermal Bid

Three companies bid to build a 50-megawatt solar-thermal plant in China, as the world’s largest energy consumer uses a competitive tender process for the first time to award a power project using the emerging technology.
GD Power Development Co., China Datang Corp. Renewable Power Co. and China Guangdong Nuclear Solar Energy Development Co. -- all units of Chinese state-owned electricity companies -- made offers while eight companies that had requested bid documents dropped out, according to an announcement today at a ceremony in Beijing held by the National Energy Administration.
