A Yemeni state security court gave prison sentences to two men accused of having links to the al-Qaeda terrorist network and helping to publicize the views of Anwar al-Awlaki, a Yemeni-American cleric who supports violence against U.S. targets.
Abdulelah Haidar, 34, who works for the state-run Saba news agency, was sentenced to five years in prison, while Abdul Karim al-Shami, 28, was given a two-year jail term. Both men were accused of “belonging to an illegal network” and supporting al-Qaeda between 2008 and 2010.
