NYC May Permit Hailing of Liveries Outside Manhattan

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg intends to let limousine livery cars pick up passengers who hail them from curbs outside Manhattan to improve mobility for people in areas less well-served by mass transit or taxicabs.

Data collected by the city Taxi and Limousine Commission show that “yellow taxis virtually never cruise for passengers outside Manhattan,” Bloomberg’s press office said in an e-mail sent before the mayor’s State of the City speech, scheduled for tomorrow.
