Ethiopian Telecommunications Former CEO Convicted, Fortune Says

A former chief executive officer of the renamed Ethiopian Telecommunications Corp. and 16 ex-employees were found guilty of corruption by the country’s Federal High Court, Addis Fortune reported.

The group was accused of losing the state-owned company, now called Ethio Telecom, 1.5 billion birr ($89.5 million) as a result of irregularities in a contract awarded to Stockholm-based Ericsson AB, the Addis Ababa-based newspaper said.
