PetroEcuador Refinery Blast Cuts Output by 50 Percent

PetroEcuador, the South American country’s state-owned oil company, said an electricity outage caused a blast at its Shushufindi refinery in the country’s Amazon region, damaging one of the two distillation units.

The refinery is operating at 50 percent capacity, producing 10,000 barrels of gasoline and diesel a day, a PetroEcuador official, who cannot be identified because of company policy, said today by telephone. No one was injured in the blast and authorities don’t know when repairs will be complete, the official said.
