The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development agreed to lend 200 million euros ($261 million) to Slovenia’s state-owned Termoelektrarna Sostanj thermal power plant to upgrade the country’s largest producer of electricity.

The money will finance the construction of a new 600-megawatt coal-powered unit to replace five less-efficient units with higher carbon intensity, the London-based lender said today in an e-mailed statement.
