India, facing the highest food inflation in six months, should emulate China in building strategic stockpiles of staples to cool prices, according to Adani Enterprises Ltd., the nation’s biggest farm goods trader.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s government, under pressure to curb costs of vegetables such as onions, a key ingredient in local cuisine, must build reserves of cooking oils, lentils and expand cold-storage facilities, Atul Chaturvedi, chief executive officer for farm business at Adani, said in a phone interview.
