Chile’s pension regulator plans to allow funds to invest directly in foreign currency as part of the government’s planned capital market reforms.

The measure seeks to give funds, known as AFPs, more flexibility when investing in foreign securities, Solange Berstein, chief pension regulator, said in a presentation in Santiago today. AFPs will have a restricted list of currencies they will be allowed to invest and restrictions on the amounts, she said.
