South Korea’s unemployment rate unexpectedly increased from a six-month low as economic expansion encouraged more people to seek jobs and the number of employees at shops, restaurants and hotels declined.

The jobless rate rose to 3.6 percent in December from 3.2 percent in November, Statistics Korea said today in Gwacheon, south of Seoul. The median forecast in a Bloomberg News survey of eight economists was for a rate of 3.2 percent.
