Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has convened a meeting with his cabinet colleagues to discuss ways to rein in food prices as opposition parties prepare to launch nationwide protests against inflation.

“The Prime Minister has been concerned about rising prices and has called a meeting of senior ministers to discuss ways to gain control over prices immediately and in the long run,” government spokeswoman Neelam Kapur said in a telephone interview in New Delhi today. The meeting started at 10:30 a.m. local time.
