New York’s Cuomo Freezes Wages, Taxes in Deficit Plan

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced a plan to close a $10 billion budget gap by freezing wages and taxes, limiting spending growth to the rate of inflation and consolidating departments.

“We can turn this crisis into an opportunity” and “use this moment to transform government,” Cuomo, 53, said in his State of the State speech in Albany. He announced plans to redesign New York’s Medicaid program and created a commission to reduce the number of agencies and authorities by 20 percent.
