New York’s Cuomo Cuts Own Pay in Face of Budget Gap

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, facing a budget deficit of as much as $11 billion, said he’ll cut his salary by 5 percent to demonstrate the sacrifices needed to restore government to fiscal health.

Cuomo, who took office Jan. 1, also will seek a one-year wage freeze for state workers as part of an emergency financial plan, according to the New York Times. By law, Cuomo is paid $179,000 a year as governor. He’ll return 5 percent to the state, Cuomo said today in a statement.
