The Islamic Development Bank agreed to give Benin a $17 million loan to help the government extend credit to women, state-owned broadcaster ORTB reported, citing Finance Minister Idriss Daouda.

The loan will increase the government’s fund for the credit program to 28 billion CFA Francs ($56 million) from 20 billion CFA Francs, Daouda said today in the commercial center, Cotonou, according to ORTB. He said that 675,000 women since 2007 have benefited from the program, which aims to alleviate poverty.
