Iceland Faces Planned Ban on Mackerel Shipments to EU

The European Union said it would block imports of mackerel from Iceland because the country refuses to sign up to a proposed plan to prevent overfishing in the northeast Atlantic Ocean.
The European Commission, the EU’s regulatory arm, said it intends to impose the trade ban by Jan. 14. The commission plans to notify the measure to a committee of the European Economic Area, which is made up of the 27-nation EU, Norway, Liechtenstein and Iceland.
