Mexichem Agrees to Purchase AlphaGary for $300 Million

Mexichem SAB, the largest maker of plastic pipes in Latin America, agreed to buy Rockwood Holdings Inc.’s AlphaGary thermoplastic compounds business for $300 million in cash.

Rockwood, the world’s largest producer of lithium products, expects to use the proceeds of the sale to reduce debt, according to a statement today citing Chief Executive Officer Seifi Ghasemi. AlphaGary, based in Leominster, Massachusetts, makes plastic compounds for the wire and cable industry as well as for the production of polyvinyl chloride, or PVC.
