Japan Purchases 5,502 Tons of Foreign Rice Through SBS Tender

Japan bought 5,502 metric tons of foreign rice today through a tender system introduced to loosen government grain-import controls, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries said.
Of the total, 3,720 tons were from the U.S., 1,646 tons were from Thailand, 100 tons were from China and 36 tons were from Pakistan, the ministry said in a statement today.
