Madagascar Says Oil Companies Want to Extend Offshore Permits

Oil companies whose operations were hindered by political unrest in Madagascar last year are in talks with the government of the Indian Ocean island nation to renew their permits, the Ministry of Mines and Hydrocarbons said.

The companies, including London-based explorer Sterling Energy Plc, want to extend permits that expired last month, according to a statement e-mailed from the Antananarivo-based ministry today.
