Markets misperceive Austria’s reliance on growth in eastern Europe, which is actually less important to the country’s economy than the western part of the continent, said central bank Governor Ewald Nowotny.
“As a result of our own propaganda, we are seen as an eastern European country,” he said at a press briefing in Vienna today. “That’s not correct, and I have to clearly say that we have a strong orientation toward the West.”
