U.K. mortgage approvals fell to an eight-month low in October, a sign the slowdown in the property market is intensifying.

Lenders granted 47,185 loans to buy homes, compared with 47,369 in September, the Bank of England said today in London. Economists forecast 47,000, according to the median of 17 predictions in a Bloomberg News survey. A Building Societies Association report today said mortgage approvals fell 8 percent last month to 1.8 billion pounds ($2.8 billion) from September.
